Northern California Trains Tour

Tour Highlights

1 • Wed: Napa Valley Wine Train with Lunch • Dean & Deluca Gourmet Shop • Sonoma County  Travel north to Napa to relax on a 36-mile round-trip excursion on the luxurious Napa Valley Wine Train from Napa to St. Helena. Gently glide past world-famous vineyards and historic wineries while enjoying a delicious gourmet lunch. In Yountville, browse through the Dean & Deluca Gourmet Shop before continuing to Sonoma County for our overnight stay. There will be time to freshen up for classic Italian cuisine at The Villa Restaurant, offering a secluded mountain-view in the heart of Sonoma County. Sonoma County: DoubleTree Hotel Sonoma (L,D)

2 • Thurs: Scenic Highway 1 • Noyo River Grill Restaurant • Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens • Fort Bragg • Dinner at Silver’s at the Wharf Restaurant  After breakfast, journey through the rolling hills of Napa Valley. Travel through the towering redwoods to scenic Highway 1 to Mendocino for lunch at Noyo River Grill Restaurant in the quaint fishing village at Noyo Harbor. Then visit Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens where everyone will be delighted by a docent-led tour. With manicured formal gardens, a dense coastal pine forest, native flora and habitats, fern covered canyons, camellias, rhododendrons, magnolias, and the flower filled coastal bluffs overlooking the blue ocean, this is a jewel on the Pacific Coast. Later we arrive at the coastal town of Fort Bragg for an overnight stay. This evening we will delight our palates with dinner at Silver’s at the Wharf Restaurant, located on the Noyo River and the Pacific Ocean.  Fort Bragg: Holiday Inn Express (CB,L,D)

3 • Fri: Skunk Train • Home  One of the most scenic railroads in North America is the famous Skunk Train. The sights from the restored rail cars are essentially unchanged. You still see towering trees, deer drinking from the Noyo River, and an isolated fisherman’s cabin peeking from the forest. With occasional whistles as we chug through tunnels, over bridges and past open meadows, the train follows the coast “Redwood Route” as it was since 1885 when the skunk line began moving massive redwood logs to Mendocino Coast sawmills from the rugged back country. Sit back and relax as we ride the Skunk Train at a leisurely pace. It is perfect for capturing photographs of this truly exhilarating journey. Upon returning back to Fort Bragg, we will have a delightful lunch at the Laurel Deli & Desserts. Then, we will continue south on our journey home. (CB,L)
